Manually Configuring the Store

ClientSetup will automatically configure a Softalk Share Server message store and set it as the default store or the secondary store, according to the choices you make in ClientSetup. However, later on, you may wish to reconfigure Outlook to log on as a different user, or point at a different Softalk Share Server or even add an additional Softalk Share Server store to Outlook.

The Softalk Share Server store can be configured from within the Mail applet. Run the Mail applet from Control Panel and press the Data Files… button. The Outlook Data Files dialog box is displayed showing a list of the currently configured stores that exist in your Outlook profile. If you have already run ClientSetup, then you should see a Softalk Share Server store in the list. The name of the Softalk Share Server store will be the name of the computer running the Softalk Share Server program, followed in square brackets by the login name of the user who is configured to log in to the store.

If you select the store from the list and press the Settings… button the Message Store Configuration dialog box is displayed.

From within this dialog you can specify the name of the server computer running the Softalk Share Server software and the credentials of the user who will log into the Softalk Share Server store using Outlook. If the user authenticates using Active Directory (as configured in the Softalk Share Server Administrator program) then ensure that the Authenticate using Active Directory radio button is selected. In this case there is no need to enter a username and password.

If you wish to have multiple Softalk Share Server stores each logged in as a different user in the same profile, then this is possible simply by pressing the Add… button in the Outlook Data Files dialog box. The New Outlook Data File dialog box is shown. Select Softalk Share Server Message Store from the list and press OK.

Note: In order to have multiple Softalk Share Server stores each logging on as different users, you must clearly not set those users to authenticate via Active Directory and must instead set them to authenticate against a standard Softalk Share Server user. This is because any stores marked as authenticating with Active Directory would all authenticate as, and therefore log in as, the same Windows user.

Next, the Message Store Configuration dialog box is shown. Enter the appropriate server and credentials information and pressing OK on the Message Store Configuration dialog box.

Now, when you log into Outlook, you will see several top level stores, one for each Softalk Share Server user configured in the profile.

This configuration effectively allows the same Outlook user to access the folders of several other users, but this is not the intended way for users to share folders. The best way of sharing folders is simply to grant the appropriate access rights in the administrator program. This way all the folders that a particular user has been given access to will appear under the Shared Folders folder within their folder tree.
