Installing the Clients Remotely using the Remote Client Setup Wizard

If you have a large number of users in your organization, the most efficient way of adding users is to add them using the Active Directory (by selecting the Edit | Add Active Directory Users and Groups menu in the Administrator program).

Once you have added the appropriate users in the administrator program, you are in a position to install the client software. If you have a large number of users, the most efficient way of doing this is by using the Remote Client Setup utility.

Note: In order to use the Remote Client Setup utility, your computers must be part of an active directory. If you do not have an active directory then you must manually run the clientsetup.exe program on each client computer. See Installing the Clients Manually.

From within the administrator program, select File | Remote Client Setup from the menu.

Select the Install/Upgrade radio button and press Next.

The Remote Client Setup utility looks for all the computers in the domain and lists them in alphabetical order.

Initially a  icon will appear against each computer, indicating that the information regarding that computer is still being retrieved. After a while, all the computers that are available on the network will appear with a symbol under the Available column. All computers that are not available (for example, switched off) will appear with a  symbol under the Available column.

The Installed column will contain a  symbol against any computer that has already had the client software installed.

Once all the  symbols have disappeared, or at any time before, you may tick any computer that has a  symbol against it.

The next page lets you choose how to configure the Softalk Share Server store on the selected computers. For more information, see Store Configurations”.

If you chose Primary store, the next page lets you choose whether or not to migrate the data from the current primary store to the Softalk Share Server store.

The following page will display the list of computers to which you are about to install the client software. Press Install to begin the installation process.

Once the installation process has finished, the Client Setup Program will report the number of computers on to which the client software has been successfully installed.

If the installation failed on any of the computers, the last page will notify you of those computers along with any reason that it identified.
