WMAdmin doesn't display output lists

WMadmin doesn't show anything in the output windows except the Event window. I'm using 8.5.1 Build 431 and i have Norton Protection Center enable on that computer. The system was working fine the last month but today i notice that the lists was cleared. The activity is normal, emails coming and going and the Output window from the server icon is displaying details.
I have already reboot and compact and repair the scs.mdb.

Storing large emails locally outside of Softalk

A number of attempts to migrate to SQL have failed so unfortunately we are stuck on a Jet database (needing regular compressing) at least for a while.

To reduce the size of our database is it possible to move large emails (say with attachments) into an archive in tje local Outlooks so that they are stored locally on the users PC and not on the poor overworked Jet database on the server?

Duplicate messages

I have another annoying problem which may or may not be server related.

When sending messages to more then one recipient a copy of the message is sent to each recipient as required but if there are 2 recipients then each gets 2 or 3 or 4 etc depending on the original number of recipients. I am using Outlook Express 6 and Mailserver 8.5.1

IMAP with iPod Touch or iPhone

Hello everyone.

I have Softalk Mail Server 8.5 set up to use IMAP. Everything works fine with Outlook and Thunderbird email clients, but when I try to use my iPod Touch, not so well. I have the correct configuration information set up on the iPod as far as I can tell, and it is able to read the list of folders set up for the user, and display a count ofmessagess, but it will not show any of the actual messages in the list.

I am able to successfully send email from the iPod, however, which is strange.

I paid a vist to my local Apple Store and sat down with a genius at the Genius Bar to discuss this, and he said the fault was probably with Softalk and not with Apple. (But of course he would say this.)

So my question is: Has anyone been able to successfully use an iPod Touch (or iPhone) built-in email client to access a Softalk Workgroup Mail server in IMAP mode, and if so was there anything special you had to do?

CPU 100% with MSvc.exe?!

I have followed the instructions http://www.softalkltd.com/support/faq_item.asp?product=wm&area=19&id=678, nothing in outgoing queue, no anti-virus.

Only way to proceed is to reset the server, after that it works fine say 10 minutes, but soon it's getting slower and slower ending to cpu 100%.

I thought the reason was loop "Out of office", but it wasn't (see my previous message).

Large Files

:cool:I hope that someone can help me. I currently run v8.5 and have a problem in that I cannot send files larger than about 0.8mb through the server. I can send these files directly through my ISP (BT) so I do not think that this is the problem. On watching the output window the server connects to the SMTP server but disconnects before the file is completely sent. Is there a setting to adjust the connection time (if this is the problem). Hello,

I just want to see if anybody knows when a new WGMAIL update will be available. I use the 8.5.1 build 431 version.

With this version, according with Softalk Support, mail address using #"# characteres is not accepted, and my fax server (Faxmaker sofware) send to WGmail mail like "555777999"@faxmaker.com. Softalk Support explained me that the new version will accept this form.

As you can see on the release notes, the 8.5.1 version was available last 31/10/2007 !!

IMAP: Messages not showing

We have a client 8 users using Outlook 2003 (one is on Outlook XP) running Softalk Mail Server latest version, using IMAP . Often the messages just don't come down. Or they don't appear for ages, up to 30 mins. Some messages when they do appear, cannot be opened with a message:

"Can't open this item. The operation is not supported until the entire message is downloaded. Download the message and try again."

Or Outlook is very slow and sometimes freezes when trying to download or read messages

This happens at some of our customers, not just one installation. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hi there,

When sending mails the Mail Server always adds an infoi to the mails that bthey have been scanned by Mailserver and are supposed to be virus-free.

How to stop adding this notice to the mails?

Reason:

Using local cerificates in Outlook and when the mails are received by the adressee the verification chaeck that the mail content may have been altered - and it has, due to the check notice.

Searched for any option within the virus section but did not find a checkbox or comparable to switch this off. Any hint will be appreciated.

IMAP/POP3 - best use, and IMAP sent folders

Hi there,

New to workgroupMail, although I have done a few searches on this forum to find any answers to my questions..

Firstly, I basically understand the difference between POP3 and IMAP although I want to be sure I am using the correct method for what I need.

We have two users, and the idea of wgm was to have a central place where messages are downloaded/scanned etc, but also to elliminate the need of backups on local PC's of the PST folder (we lost a lot of email recently).

So, is it best to use POP3 client in outlook and keep a copy on the server, or is it best to use IMAP... I guess also the archive function enables the storing of all mail if we want to?

The only issue with IMAP has been (using outlook 2003 pro) it doesn't seem to keep sent items in the IMAP sent folder? there is still a personal folder (PST) where the sent items are stored, and I guess that means it is local, and again we want to keep everything on the server??

Sorry if this is a little difficult to follow.. just hoping someone has some experience of the above to possible direct me in a possible right direction.

Softalk Mail Server keep stopping up

Hi.

For about 3-4 months ago our free support thing ran out. Typically right after that, the program became very unstable.
Many times I've got phonecalls from costumers that don't recieve any email, because the application have stopped sending emails.

Restarting the Softalk Mail Server application often fixes the problem, but sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have to empty the temp. folder, repair the database (SQL) and do a fresh restart of the server to make it work again.

I don't have a clean diagnostics report, but most of the problems being reported seems harmless to me.

Currently the application is only being used for routing (Settings -> Routing) to some local or external exchange servers. No POP is in use, and the server is not used for sending e-mails (only recieving).

The Port errors often shows up after I've restarted the application after a hung. It still works though.

When the application hangs, it still connects to SMTP servers, accept connections from SMTP servers, but the "Sending message 'Message' to 'email@domain.com' (1 of 1)" is not there.

Is anyone able to see here what's wrong?

Webmail - Message Failed to Send

Hi folks.

First let me say that this is an older version of WorkGroup Mail (version 7.6.4) and it's associated webmail. I also know that I will be told that they need to be upgraded to a supported version. We will be doing that soon, but I am having an issue with what we have that I need to solve.

In testing, I have been able to replicate the error mentioned in the subject line. The error then talks about the relay settings (done) and the interfaces (done). I have discovered that the error occurs when someone from outside has sent a message in, the user checks it with Webmail and attempts to reply to the sender.

It only occurs when the "sender" has an address book entry for the Workgroup Mail recipient. Let me explain by example:

If I send a message to my customer with WorkGroup Mail from my Outlook, I start typing his e-mail address:

rodgers@

By the time I get to the "@", Outlook has filled in the rest of the address and my "To:" reads:

"Jerry Rodgers <rodgers@domain.com>"

I send the message fine. When he pulls it up with Webmail, and tries to reply to all, the To: address only contains:

'Jerry Rodgers'

Of course, WorkGroup Mail does not know what to do with this so he gets the error.

If I send it to another user on that domain, and I do not have that user in my address book, the address remains intact and the reply to all works flawlessly.

This is typically a major issue when the original message has several recipients and one of the recipients is attempting to reply to all and one or more of them have an address that shows in the above fashion.

Is there anyting to be done to get Webmail, or Workgroup Mail, to use the raw address?

Moving from Softalk Share Server to Softalk Mail Server

Chris has suggested we buy Softalk Mail Server but I'm confused how it would work with Softalk Share Server or if one would replace the other.

Has anybody here upgraded to Softalk Mail Server from Softalk Share Server or run them together?

Direct Send of emails not working, only via ISP

We have moved office, and changed ISP, and for some reason i cannot directly send emails

i had to add my ISP and instruct the domain to send via the ISP, rather than direct. i have 2 domains, one frequently used and i rarely removed, so am using the two to do tests

upon moving into the new office, i changed the Primary and Secondry DNS servers to match the automatically supplied DNS servers with my DSL connection (203.0.178.191 and 203.215.29.191). I also changed the DNS servers on my TCP/IP Properties on the LAN connection to match

When receiving the message, the Output window shows the Decoding message, the looks up the mail server (sometimes up to 4 different mail servers, for example hotmail) then nothing. however sending via ISP (not ideal) seems immediate and trouble free

i am using the same modem, so all the ports are open in the same way. i checked with the new ISP, they do not block the ports in any way

Can you please tell me what else i need to change or check?

We are getting way too much spam through to our users. We have updated our rules but they indicate the last true update on 2/25/08. We use spamhaus for blacklisting. Still, too many "obvious" spam messages are getting through.

HARD DISK PARKING

I have found that it appears that the SSS runs better if you don't put your hard drives to sleep. I had a locking up problem, I don't know if it was that SSS wouldn't spin the drive up or that there was no compensation for the delay when waiting for the drive to come back on, but it works much better now that I have it set to "NEVER TURN OFF".

Outgoing Mail Queue

Error 404 Bad Address

was just wondering if someone inserts a bad address into the system and it tries to send it out, it fails and blocks the queue... is there any way to return to sender and remove the mail from the queue as supposed to trying to continously send it out...

Another Mailing list problem

I am new to WorkgroupMail. I know the answer to this post is probably going to be to upgrade, but I'll ask anyway.

A customer is running WorkgroupMail 7.6.4. They send out a weekly newsletter to their financial board with sensative information in the letter.

They have noticed, on a few occations, that the message was going to recipients not on that list. It appears to be jumping to another mailing list when the message is sent.

Any Ideas?

now, i have downloaded many mail server software, and all them asked to have a domain and DNS primary and secondary. but i dont have those

now,

how can i do that without changing my network sitting ( workgroup )?

255.255.255.0 and my pc's start with 192.168.1.1

what is dns going to be?
what the domain should be is?

server somehow has become an open relay - HELP!

Hi,

Somehow our server has been comprised and it is currently sending out tons of spam. The only way I can get it to stop is to set the SMTP server interface to none. I've tried removing all trusted hosts and also set the option where it would not allow SMTP authentication (to see if somehow a user name or password was comprimised). As of right now there are no trusted hosts and SMTP authentication isn't allowed, but there are still several attemtps per second coming through.

What other settings can I try?

Email Listing is in a loop

If there are any bad emails in the list (i.e. old email addresses that have expired or no longer exists), the list goes into a perpetual loopback resending the message over and over again to the entire list. This is extremely irritating to the list members and extremely frustruating to me in trying to make this work. We are using version 7.6.3

I tested with a simple set up of one bad address and one good address and I got 6 emails to the good address before I finally killed it. The only way to kill it is to delete the message from the pendingmailings folder.

Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, is there a remedy for this?

We are using GNU ASSP spam filter on the mail server as well.

Mailing List Problems

Hi,

having spent some while looking at the in's and out's of the mailing list plugin, I can't get it to work properly.

I create an announcement list of news@ogsl.co.uk.

From an independent email client I send an email to news@ogsl.co.uk with the word subscribe as the subject, and the contents of the email is blank.

I expect to get a message back from the mailing list plug-in asking me to confirm my subscription, however the email sent with the subject subscribe is just getting delivered to the default catch all mailbox.

What am I doing wrong?:ermm:

Reverse DNS?

WGM 8 - can not open database

got the following question:

installed WGM 8 under W2K Server using the admin account and everything runs well

However, when I log in as normal user WGM doese not start ("Can not open database").

As I do not want to be logged in as admin and run the server what to do?

What I already did was setting the correct rights for the database - or at least hope so. Result was, that now the server starts but does not run, i.e. the icon in the task line appears but does not turn in a green moving light, it just stays red and does not move.

Which rights do I have to set to run WGM under a normals users account?

How to cleanup the Messages folder

We only use 7 accounts, but the Messages folder has a size of 12 Gb! To reduce the size, we archive the messages after 1 month and strip the attachments greater then 2 Mb.

After archiving, the size of the Message folder reduces a littel (perhaps the stripped attachments), but it looks like the archive process doesn't delete the messages from the Message folder.

Is there a way to automaticly delete messages from the Messages folder during the archive process and if not, can it be done manually?

Contentfilter not working

It seems to me that none of the contentfilters I made is working. The last filter I applied is listed below:

Check incoming messages.

If message subject contains *[spamfilter-flag]*

quarantine mesage to Default Quarantine

There is nothing happening however. The "Default Qurantine" folder remains empty. Al messages in which the Subject contains [spamfilter-flag] appear only in the "Quarantine Spam" folder. I would appreciate some help in this matter. Thank You.

My company received this particular email return today and I am curious if this is something I should be concerned about or is it something on the remote server. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Workgroupmail upgrade 7.6 -> 8.4 problem

Hello,

I just try to upgrade workgroupmail software, and had an error at the end of upgrade.

Now, the install doesn't complete and I can just start the service without access to administrator (message "data file does not exist"). The soft seems to work, at service but I can't enter to the workgroupMail administrator ... !

WMadin.exe doesn't start ... and if I try to restart the install, it seems to ignore the all configuration.

Could you please help me ?
